Forgotten Coast Fishing Report
The nearest shore reefs are really turning on with limits of bee-liners at the top of the list; triggerfish as well as some mangroves are also being caught, shrimp are the bait of choice, cut mullet, works well.
We have had several good inshore reports from our local captains; Capt Phil of Phil’s charter service and his crew were able to wrangle some big reds to the boat this week. Capt Chris Lance of Gettin’ Reel Sportfishing had another first-rate week of sheepshead, trout and redfish. For all you shark fisherman, that bite is turning on with some bull sharks being caught along Indian Pass; butterflied bonita are a great bait to start with as well as cut mullet.
The catfish are obliging freshwater fishermen on Lake Wimico using stink bait, as well as cut bait. Crappie are still caught as well. Shellcracker are starting to be caught on the Dead Lakes. David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
