Gulf County unites for Easter Egg hunt

At first it seemed like it might be a washout, but on the contrary, Saturday morning’s unified Gulf County Easter Egg Hunt turned out to be an exceptional, albeit overcast, event.

A combined effort of the Junior Service League, the Wewahitchka Woman’s Club, HIPPY, Florida Department of Corrections, Centennial Bank, Gulf County Tourist Development Council and Gulf County Sheriff’s Department brought the Honeyville Park and Community Center to life.

Miss Port St. Joe Celie White counted down for the kids to begin racing in their respective hunting grounds, divided by age, for over 2,000 filled plastic eggs that were scattered throughout the park.

Once they were all gathered, and cracked open for their prizes inside, it was time for games, hot dogs, cakes and candy, crafts, face painting, and prizes for the children inside the community center, and of course a chance to meet the Easter Bunny, whose visit was arranged by Wewahitchka High School sophomore James Hardy.
