Tiger Shark hoopsters end 2023 at 3-7

The Port St. Joe boys varsity basketball team lost a pair of games this week at the Milton H. Johnson Optimist Shootout in Marianna, to finish out 2023 at 3-7.

On Dec. 27, the Tiger Sharks fell 56-35 to the Class 4A Walton Braves.

Senior Jaden Jenrett led the team in scoring with 12 points, followed by seven from junior Kanaan Jefferson. Freshman Zay Jenkins tallied six points, and senior BJ Cole and freshman Darion Cherry each five.



Cole and Jenkins led the team with four rebounds and three assists each, with Cole blocking two shots and Jenkins stealing the ball four times.

The next night, Coach Sandy Quinn’s Tiger Sharks had a closer game against the Seminole County Indians, as they fell 59-53 at the Shootout.

Port St. Joe trailed 28-24 at the half, fell behind 48-39 after three quarters, and outscored their opponents 14-11 in the final quarter to account for the six-point loss.

The Tiger Sharks now have a rest, before playing again at Blountstown on Friday, Jan. 5.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
