Electricity restored to Wewa area

An electrical outage to customers served by the Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative, that shut off power to about 4,500 customers in the Wewahitchka area, has been restored.

The power came back on at 3:05 p.m. CT.

The outage happened about 11 a.m. and it is believed to have occurred when a feed from Florida Power and Light was interrupted.



According to an outage map on the Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative, the outage affected about 2,600 customers to the south of Wewa, about 923 between Wewa and the Dead Lakes, 760 directly north of Wewa and 251 to the west of the city.

The outage extended to the coop’s customers in Calhoun, Liberty and Bay counties.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.

  1. I believe here in Wewa, and Howard Creek that we suffer too many power outages and it is getting time we complain to the Utilities Commission of Fla to look into this situation. Sky blue day, no wind rain or snow– power goes out. Sometimes for several minutes, sometimes for several hours but way too many occurrences.
