New surgeon joins Ascension Sacred Heart

Dr. Jeffrey Root will provide services at Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf in Port St. Joe

Port St. Joe, Fla. (August 21, 2023) – Ascension Sacred Heart Surgical Services – Port St. Joe welcomes Dr. Jeffrey Root, a board-certified general surgeon who provides surgical care to adults. He is accepting new patients and most major insurances.

His office is located in the Medical Office Building on the Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf campus at 3871 U.S. 98 #200B, Port St. Joe, FL 32456. He will perform surgeries and procedures at Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf located at 3801 U.S. 98 in Port St. Joe.



Dr. Root has special interests in laparoscopic surgery, colon and rectal surgery, acute care surgery, melanoma/skin cancer surgery, endoscopy, upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. He addresses medical needs in a compassionate and timely manner, while providing quality and

individualized surgical care.

He completed his residency in general surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange County, California, and earned his medical degree from UC Irvine College of Medicine. He also obtained a Master’s of Business Administration from UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business.

Outside the office, Dr. Root loves to travel abroad, spend time outdoors and play recreational soccer. One of his favorite activities is standup paddleboarding.

Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
