Salt Air Farmers Market

Shop local farmers and artisans. Let your family enjoy art pieces and the amazing flavors of fresh veggies, sweet Tupelo Honey and vine-ripened fruit. The Salt Air Farmers Market is open the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT in downtown Port St. Joe.

Country market at lighthouse Saturday

The Crooked River Lighthouse hosts its outdoor Country Market this Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1975 Hwy 98 West. First Friday Sip and Shop

June 2, join the merchants on Reid Ave in Port St. Joe for First Friday Sip & Shop, from 5 to 7 p.m. EDT. Enjoy adult beverages and light hors d’oeuvres while finding great deals and good times on Reid Avenue at participating businesses.

Glass with Class 

Prepare to be delighted and bedazzled as The Joe Center for the Arts becomes a proverbial house of glass.  

“Glass With Class” features the works of eight glass artists and runs through Friday, June 9. 

Decorative and functional pieces in all forms, colors and sizes make up this show, crafted by area artisans using hot, warm and cold processes in their studios.

The exhibit will be open to the public Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT.

Enjoy lighthouse climbs this weekend

The Crooked River Lighthouse will host a full moon lighthouse event on Saturday, June 3 from 8 to 10 p.m. There will be live music from Kevin Andrew and the Rockulla Performers, who will play guitar and ukulele and sing classic country, oldies, and more.

The climb’s cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Reservations are required for those who wish to climb by calling the Lighthouse gift shop at (850) 697-2732.

At the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island, the full moon climb will be Sunday, June 4 from 8 to 11 p.m. The gift shop will open at 7:30 p.m. to begin selling tickets’ cost is $10 per climber for the public and $7 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. WWII museum extends exhibit

Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum in Carrabelle is extending until Saturday, June 3 its exhibit on Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily in 1943. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but donations are gladly accepted. The museum is at 1873 Hwy 98 West, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park. For more information, contact the museum at (850) 697-8575 or [email protected].



Meet the Editor

Wendy Weitzel, The Star’s digital editor, joined the news outlet in August 2021, as a reporter covering primarily Gulf County.

Prior to then, she interned for Oklahoma-based news wire service Gaylord News and for Oklahoma City-based online newspaper NonDoc.com during her four years at the University of Oklahoma, from which she graduated in May with degrees in online journalism and political science.

While at OU, Weitzel was selected as Carnegie-Knight News21 Investigative Fellow among 30 top journalism students from around the country. She also was senior editor managing a 12-person newsroom in coordination with Oklahoma Watch, a non-profit news organization in eastern Oklahoma.
