FSU switches Wewa’s Williams to running back

Alex Williams, a two-way standout for four years on the Wewahitchka football team, paid a visit to Port St. Joe during the volleyball match on Thursday, August 25, to visit with some friends.

After signing with Florida State this past Spring as a PWO (preferred walk-on), Williams is listed on the Seminole roster as a defensive back wearing number 47, but told the Star that “they saw that I can run the ball, so they moved me to running back and I’m in the running backs’ room for now.”

“So Saturday, I’ll be with the running backs running out” onto the field when the Seminoles host the Duquesne Dukes at 4:00 p.m. Williams added that he thought he would be wearing jersey number 37 for the game.

During his four years as a Gator, Williams rushed for 4,179 yards and 53 touchdowns despite missing three games his senior year due to a shoulder injury.

“Everything’s good right now,” said Williams. “They heard about my situation, so they’ve been treating me right. I’m ready to just keep working from now on and earn my spot on the starting position.”

A true student-athlete, Williams started his classes last week, and said that he would work to earn all A’s.
