Florida Forestry battles 2 Gulf County wildfires
UPDATE THURSDAY:
Both fires are now 100 percent contained.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY:
The Jarrot Daniels Road fire is reported to be 100 percent contained.
UPDATE 12:45 P.M. – Both fires are now 90 percent contained according to the Florida Forest Service.
UPDATE 8:08 A.M. – A second wildfire was reported in the Ditch Landing area off of Doc Whitfield Road on Tuesday morning.
It is currently reported as being 5 acres and 0 percent contained.
Gulf County Emergency Management Director Matt Herring said that the fire is in a difficult location for firefighters to access.
“It’s very hard to get to,” he said. “But we’re woorking on it with about two dozen members of (Florida) Forestry and a helicopter to try to keep it under control.”
PREVIOUS REPORT:
The Florida Forest Service reported a wildfire in the area of Jarrott Daniles Road and County Road 386 that broke out on Monday.
As of Tuesday morning, the fire was reported to be 90 acres and 60 percent contained.
Gulf County Emergency Management Director Matt Herring said that firefighters continue to monitor the fire as humidity drops and wind speeds pick up on Tuesday, but that the fire is mostly contained at this time.
