Christmas in the Garden draws large crowd

The garden center was full of baked goods on Saturday morning, all contributed by members of the Port St Joe Garden Club to raise money for the center and its community goals.

Just an hour and a half later, half the baked goods were gone.

By the time the Christmas in the garden event began to wind down at 1:30 p.m., all that was left fit on a single card table outside.

“The Port St. Joe Garden Club earnestly thanks the Gulf County community for making its Christmas in the Garden Celebration a heavily attended success,” said Susan Wozniak, a member of the organization.Garden club members held workshops throughout the year in preparation for the Christmas in the Garden Celebration.  They donated their time, energy, and talents to create unique ornaments, home accessories, and gift items.”

“While contributing to the success of this charity event, long-time members and newcomers alike have forged friendships and strengthened ties to their charming coastal enclave.”

Locals and tourists enjoyed perusing the brightly decorated tents, photos with Santa and lively chatter with the Garden Club’s enthusiastic volunteers.

Wozniak said that the turnout for the event was much larger than the Garden Club had expected.

“Well, garden club members went home Saturday after the Christmas in the Garden Celebration for a long winter’s nap,” she laughed. “The event was a huge success! Guess we’ll start planning for the next one soon.”
