STATEBOUND: Wewa to face Jay in Final Four

The Wewahitchka Lady Gators are
headed to the Final Four in Class 1A softball, after they defeated Liberty
County 6-3 in the regional finals at Bristol Wednesday.

Haley Guffey got her 20th
win of the season, as she and her teammates combined for 10 hits
to give her the runs needed to secure this third win of the season out of four matchups
with the Lady Bulldogs.

The Gators’ only loss this
season to Liberty came in the regional semis, when the Lady Bulldogs won 4-1 to
secure home field advantage for Wednesday’s game.





Wewa was victorious twice
during the regular season, 5-2 at home and then 6-0 in Bristol.

The Lady Gators (21-3) play Tuesday,
May 18 at noon ET at Legends Way Field in Clermont, against the Jay Lady Royals
(23-5), who shut out Holmes County 1o-0 on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, Branford (15-4)
downed Taylor County 13-3, and Trenton (18-1) shutout Dixie County 4-0 to set
up the other state semifinal, to played at 2 p.m. Tuesday.



Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
