City of Apalachicola
CITIZEN MEMORIALIZATION PROGRAM
With its new citizen memorialization program, the City of Apalachicola offers some great opportunities for individuals to celebrate citizens of Apalachicola, for business and organizations to recognize excellent workers and volunteers, and for families and friends to honor individuals and mark special occasions while improving our parks and outdoor spaces.
The city commission unanimously approved a memorialization offering options from purchasing engraved bricks for paths in Lafayette Park to donating the cost of planting shrubs and trees bearing a dedication plaque in city parks. You can dedicate a powder-coated steel bench to mark where your loved one enjoyed sitting or celebrate their life with a picnic table. In each case, you can add a plaque personalized (there is a 100-character maximum) to memorialize the gift. Plans are also being made for the installation of a commercial fishing memorial at Scipio Creek.
Whether Apalachicola is your forever home or a new discovery, you can leave a positive impact with a gift in one of Apalachicola's 19 parks and squares. You can donate a particular item or donate a monetary gift, in either case, city staff can suggest the most needed items. Final choice of the location of a donated item is at the discretion of the city or its designated representative.
Some of the materials such as bricks, trees and shrubs, may require that orders be grouped and installed only during appropriate seasons.
It's easy to participate in the program. To apply, complete an application, available on
the city's website or at City Hall on Pop Wagoner Boulevard and return it there,
