William R. Shockey

Date of Death


William R. Shockey, 92, passed away peacefully at his home with love ones by his side. Known to many as Bill or Billy Bob, he was full of life and shenanigans up to the end. He was the Mayor of Hatley Drive and that meant knowing all your business and the cities business. He would do anything to help his neighbors, friends and a perfect stranger. He was the first MacGyver of his time rigging any and everything to fix it for one more go.

Born to parents John and Beatrice Shockey in Dearborn, MI. Bill graduated from Lakeview High in Battle Creek, MI in 1950. He was in the National Guard where he was in charge of ordering and handing out uniforms. He enjoyed his work. Bill then moved on to JC Penney’s in Massillon, Ohio where he would end up as manager of the store. He loved managing and would move on to several discount store like Tops, Arlans and Gibson’s. Later he would dabble in Flea Markets and TV / Repair stores. He finally retired to Mexico Beach, Florida where he bought a boat to fish his remaining years out.

Bill was preceded in death by two wives, Dorothy Block Shockey and Constance Walters Shockey. He also was preceded in death by his oldest son, William Robert Shockey Jr. .

Bill leaves behind seven children John Shockey (Julie), Sandy Shockey ( Jeff), Donna Yielding, David Shockey (Alishia), Renee DuBois (Patrick), Steve Lampson (Val), and Michelle Nicholas(Paul); thirteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He will be miss by all.

A memorial service will be planned to spread his ashes at a later date.
