Ruth Lindsey Hammond, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023. She was born on May 29, 1927 to Howard and Evelyn Lindsey. She was born in Sumatra, Florida. She met the love of her life, O.C. Hammond Sr. and moved to Port St. Joe, where they raised their three children. They moved to White City and lived there for 40 years until they moved to Wewahitchka to be closer to their daughter. After 70 years of marriage O.C. died in 2012. Ruth was a longtime EMT with the St. Joe Ambulance Squad, an avid painter, and she loved animals. She was a longtime member of Port St. Joe United Methodist Church and later the First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka. She made the best blueberry muffins in the world. She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Hazel; two brothers, G.P. Lindsey, Cleve Lindsey; two sons, O.C. Jr. and Eric Howard. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Rich (David); one brother, Lawrence Lindsey (Bonnie); grandchildren, David C. Rich, Amy Rich Kirkus (Jason), Michael L. Hammond, Eric Pitts (Susie), Pam Nunnery (Philip); great grandchildren, David Michael Rich, Tyler Kirkus; sister-in-law, Pat Lindsey; nephews, Howard Davis. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka. Interment will follow in the Buckhorn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1-2 pm prior to the service.
