Margarette Virginia Napier Willis Schremp

Margarette Virginia Napier Willis Schremp of Port St. Joe, Florida, was born October 31, 1926, in Rehobeth, Alabama, and died peacefully at home on Friday, January 10, 2025.

She was the daughter of Chilton Stovall Napier and Lillie Mae Baxley Napier. Margarette “Tootsie” had lived at the beach she loved for the last 38 years. She lived, worked, and raised her family in Greenwood, Florida, where she had moved as a young girl.

Margarette was predeceased by her husband, Lee Eugene Willis, her five sisters, four brothers and her beloved dog “Cookie”.

Margarette is survived by her three daughters, Sherry Willis Herring (Dallas/Buster), Debra Anne Willis, and Jeannie Willis Evans. She is also survived by her four beloved grandsons: Matthew Herring (Sherry), Lee Herring (Petrina), Christopher Evans, and William Evans (Sydni). Our Nene has six great-grandchildren: Peyton, Branton, Daniel, and Ashley Herring and Noah Leigh and Liam Evans.

Margarette married Lee in 1946. Shortly afterwards she graduated from the University of Florida. Lifelong Gator fans, they attended many UF football games. Their three daughters all graduated from Florida State University and enjoyed the alma mater rivalry with her throughout the football seasons. Margarette began her career in Jackson County, FL as a high school teacher at Greenwood High School teaching business classes and physical education. She moved to Marianna Middle School and taught English until her retirement after 30 years.

After the loss of Lee, Margarette moved to the beach, enjoyed walks and became part of the community. In 1992 she married Richard Schremp and they enjoyed golf and travels until his death in 2012.

She requested that her ashes be placed next to her husband, Lee, in the Greenwood Methodist Cemetery. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Greenwood United Methodist Church, Greenwood, FL at 10:00 AM CT/11:00 AM ET with lunch and visitation to follow.
