Date of Death


Jessie V. Armstrong, 80, of Wewahitchka, FL entered his heavenly home on Friday, October 20, 2023. He was born on August 10, 1943 to Donnie­Mae Morris and Harold Mortan Armstrong.

Jessie served as Gulf County District 1 County Commissioner from November 1992 to November 1996. He and his wife raised their three children on Circle J Ranch before opening his business “Armstrong Maintenance” where he was the best mechanic before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and five granddaughters. He was known to the world as Pop, Dad, Jessie V, Uncle Jessie and his favorite title, PawPaw.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife & best friend, Carolyn Armstrong; parents Donnie-Mae and Harold Armstrong; and sisters, Dawns-Rae, Donnaree Nunnery and Lenora Armstrong-Brennon.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kenny Wayne Armstrong (Vicki), Billy-Ray Armstrong (Karen); daughter, Becky Armstrong-Hamm (Marty); five granddaughters who were the light of his world, Crystal Armstrong Jackson (Randy), Jessica Hamm Price (Mikey), Kelly Armstrong Strayer (JD), Katie Armstrong Butler (Chase) and Little Leroy and Shelby Armstrong; 14 great-grandchildren, Jody Jackson, Kyler Jackson, Daisy Jackson, Harlen Jackson, Brandy Jackson, Taylor Price, Danyell Powell, Blylee Strayer, Jack Strayer IV, Cole Butler, Addison Butler, Caroline Butler, Brentley Armstrong and Bailee Armstrong; several siblings who he loved as his own, Kenny Armstrong, Hazel Nunnery, Dorothy Alderman, Elizabeth Linton and Betty Hughes; his beloved fur-baby, Lil’ Mama; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom he loved dearly. Even though we are left with a broken heart, we have a lot of good memories to cherish and will forever.

Serving as Pall Bearers are Randy Jackson, Mikey Price, JD Strayer, Chase Butler, Norman Terry, Falcon Hughes and William Hughes.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Pentecostal Church of Wewahitchka, with Pastor Mike Chumney officiating. He was laid to rest in Jehu Cemetery.
