Frances Joy Hudson Maggard, 81, of Port St. Joe, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2024. Frances was born in Clayton, Alabama on October 16, 1942. She is preceded in death by parents, Barnett and Joy Hudson; husband Edward Maggard, Sr.; eldest son Edward Maggard, Jr.; eldest brother James Hudson. Frances and late husband Ed lived in Montgomery, Alabama for many years, where she played the piano for several churches, including Sardis Baptist Church, Montgomery, and Equality Baptist Church,

Lake Martin. In her lifetime, Frances primarily lived in Alabama: Clayton, Montgomery, Wetumpka, and Lake Martin. Her love of the beach led her to finally settle in Port St. Joe, Florida, where her brothers both lived. In addition to playing piano at church, she also worked for many years in hospital administration at AUM Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, and later for the County Health Department in Port St. Joe, Florida.

Frances had a lifelong love of music and dancing, and especially loved to dance the jitterbug. Frances had striking blue eyes and was a vivacious, beautiful woman who was always “put together” in fashionable clothing, makeup and hairstyle. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them at the beach, telling entertaining stories from the past, or discussing books she had read. An avid reader, she especially loved Southern authors. Friend and neighbor, Gaby Hawkes, was very kind and helpful in Frances’ later years, always willing to lend a helping hand.
