PSJHS Odyssey of the Mind places sixth at World Tournament

Port St. Joe High School’s Odyssey of the Mind Team competed on an international stage last week, placing sixth in their category at the World Tournament held in Lansing, Michigan.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.

In it, student groups of about five to seven are given a prompt to which they are tasked to create a short play in which characters address the assigned prompt. Students are also responsible for costume and set design.

Port St. Joe High School’s team competed in the division three category for the prompt “Classics… The Walls of Troy,” in which students were tasked to create a story that was based on Homer’s Iliad.

The team’s trip to Michigan was supported by fundraising efforts within the community.

The students altered the first line of their performance ahead of the competition to say “this performance is in memory of our dearly loved classmates, TJ Jenkins and Andrew Sheppard, who we lost this week.”
