Weitzel named Star’s editor

Wendy Weitzel has been named the new editor of the Port St. Joe Star.

Weitzel joined the Star as a journalist in August 2021 and also serves as digital editor for the Star’s parent company, Neves Media Publishing. 

While she will continue serving Gulf County in those roles, Weitzel will additionally oversee editorial direction of the newspaper and its website.



Apalachicola Times Editor David Adlerstein, who has served as interim editor of the Star for the past few years, states he is excited to see Weitzel continue to lead news coverage in Gulf County.

“Wendy has become incredibly connected to the Gulf County community in both heart and hand,” said Adlerstein. “She has earned this role.”

The announcement was Thursday by Todd Neves, president of Neves Media Companies.

“We are thrilled to announce the formal promotion of Wendy Weitzel to editor of the Port St. Joe Star,” said Neves. “She has been a tremendous asset for us in bringing local, up–to–the–minute news coverage back to Gulf County.”

Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
