Bulldog toe downs Wewa in OT
The Liberty County Bulldogs emerged with a hard fought, 35-34 overtime victory over the visiting Wewahitchka Gators last Friday night, August 27, thanks to the kicking toe of Alejandro Rodriguez who converted all five of his extra point attempts.
The Bulldogs overcame another brilliant performance by Gator senior Alex Williams on both sides of the ball. The Vanderbilt commit rushed for 193 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown burst, passed for another 37 yards and one touchdown (to Zay McDaniel), and contributed to the defensive effort with 10 tackles and one assist.
McDaniel, the talented sophomore, added seven rushes for 26 yards and a touchdown in addition to picking up 103 kickoff return yards.
Landon Hysmith and Tyran Williams rushed for 77 and 20 yards, respectively, with each scoring a touchdown.
For the game, the Gators totaled 316 rushing yards, 37 passing yards, and 127 return yards.
In overtime, Wewa took a 34-28 lead, but were not able to convert the 2-point try.
On their next drive, Bulldog quarterback Rylen Roddenberry tied the game with a short run to set up Rodriguez’s game-winning kick.
Wewa has a bye this week before hosting Rutherford on September 10.
