Lady Gators split two volleyball matches
The Wewahitchka Lady Gators split two volleyball matches this week, bringing their record to 2-2.
On Tuesday, August 23, playing at Franklin County, Wewa took the match 3-0, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-12, and 25-21.
Two nights later, Bozeman departed from the Lady Gator gym after a 3-0 win, defeating Wewa 25-16, 25-9, and 25-12. The Bucks improved to 2-0 on the season.
Having to dismiss one of her varsity starters from the team prior to the Bozeman match “was rough,” said Coach Nikita Andrews, and this “switched our rotation entirely.”
Thursday “was our first day of a real challenge,” said Andrews. “We’ve had personality hiccups, (but last night) the girls finished. That’s all that matters.”
“In life, it’s not about winning and losing. It’s about how you react to an issue at hand, (and) I feel the Lady Gators handled themselves with grace and determination under fire,” said Andrews.
“They fought through new positions, a new rotation, and played with their hearts against a well-formed team,” said Andrews.
Wewa next plays at Liberty County on Monday, August 29 before hosting Port St. Joe on Tuesday,
August 30. The middle school and JV squads will play prior to the start of the varsity match. Varsity first serve is scheduled for 6:00 Easter, 5:00 Central.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
