Gators volleyball starts season with a win after pre-season loss
Although the Wewahitchka Lady Gators started their 2022 volleyball season with a 5-set loss to the Altha Wildcats on Tuesday, August 16, head coach Nikita Andrews remained upbeat about her young team.
Since it was a pre-season match, “I wasn’t worried about winning or losing, but finding a good rotation with the girls,” said Andrews.
“I made a lot of lineup changes,” said Andrews, (and) “watching the aggression at the net, and the back row working as a unit really has me excited for these girls.”
The scores for the five sets were 25-8, 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, and 13-15.
Two nights later on Thursday, August 18, the Gators swept the Godby Cougars of Tallahassee in two sets, 25-14 and 25-22 for their first win of the season.
While continuing to make changes in her rotations, Andrews said that “the girls worked hard and played hard. They play (better) when they’re having fun.”
“They are young and inexperienced, but they are athletes,” said Andrews. “They really surprised me this week, (and) the future looks promising.”
