UPDATE: Easter finishes as state runner-up
In a close championship match, Wewahitchka senior Kaylee Easter brought home the school’s first ever state runner-up finish as she took home second place Saturday in the championship match at the Class 1A state girls wrestling tournament in Kissimmee.
At the 39 second mark of the first period, Easter secured a takedown for two-points against her opponent, Madisyn Blackburn, of Clay.
In the second period, Blackburn, starting from the bottom position, scored a two-point reversal at the 1:29 mark to knot the score at 2-all. Blackburn then managed a pin at the 2:59 mark.
Easter, who wrestles in the 130-pound weight class, finished her season at 26-15.
Easter opened the tournament by pinning Tattiana Bermudez (19-11), from Miami Killian High School, in 2:13. In her next match, Easter pinned Rachel Ferreter (29-9), from Orlando’s Freedom High School, in 1:46.
She then took on Kendall Bibla (18-8) from Tocoi Creek High School, in St. Johns County. Easter earned a 6-2 decision.
Easter and Blackburn will be on the same collegiate team next year, as both will be wrestling for Brewton-Parker College in Georgia.
Easter’s younger sister Kameron wrestled in the 100-pound weight class. She lost by fall in her opening match against Rebekkah Kinkade, (17-6) from South Dade.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
