Goblins, ghouls gather for Ghosts on the Coast

There were witches on the crosswalks and ghouls in store windows. The sidewalk was crowded with monsters, who had come from far and wide, seeking candy and Halloween festivities.

The Gulf County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Port St. Joe’s annual Ghosts on the Coast kicked off at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, and the children of Port St. Joe turned out for a night of Halloween fun.

After COVID-19 restricted many festivities last October, the community once again gathered on Reid Avenue to trick-or-treat and catch up with some friends like in years past, with some slight modifications to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Instead of the usual costume contest, this year’s competition was blind judged, with judges walking around selecting winners unbeknownst to the guests.

City officials say they are already looking forward to hosting Ghosts on the Coast next year, are are now shifting their focus to the upcoming holiday season. The Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11.
