Forgotten Coast flexes muscles at state meet
With lifters from all three high schools qualifying to the state boys weightlifting meet April 11 and 12 in Polk County, the Forgotten Coast showed they have muscles to compete in the Class 1A ranks.
As expected, Wewahitchka’s program showed the best results, as they finished 16th in the Olympic competition, and 33rd in the Traditional ranks. Port St. Joe was 22nd in Traditionals, and Franklin County was 27th.
In Traditional, Port St. Joe’s Camden Focht was fourth in the 219-pound class, lifting 565 pounds. In Olympic, Asher Peacock was ninth in the 183-pound class, lifting 420 pounds.
Wewahitchka’s Braedyn Skipper was fourth at 129-pound Olympic, lifting 355, and sixth in Traditional, hoisting 395 pounds. Tyran Williams was fourth at 183 pounds in Olympic, as he lifted 445 pounds, and tenth in Traditional, lifting 500 pounds.
Franklin County’s Eric Smith was fifth at 199 pounds in Traditional

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
