Donations mark start of Holy Week
The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club had a truly fulfilling and inspiring week, embracing their motto of Living the Volunteer Spirit through service, education, and community connection.
Our April monthly meeting featured an enlightening presentation by guest speaker Susan Wozniak, from the University of Florida Extension Office and a member of the Port St. Joe Garden Club. Her PowerPoint, “Landscaping is a Fusion of Botany and Art,” was both informative and inspiring. Members gained a new appreciation for the native plants that flourish in our area and learned how cultivating a healthy garden contributes to the entire ecosystem, including feeding baby birds through the presence of native bugs. Her message was clear: when we plant with nature in mind, we create beauty and life.
At the same meeting, we had the joy of presenting a $200 donation to Carolyn Ranie, librarian at Wewahitchka Elementary School, to support the school’s library programs. In a generous gesture of community partnership, Hanna Bush from Emerald Coast Hospice presented our club with a check for $5,000 to help fund our community service projects. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and dedication to improving lives in our area.
Adding to the excitement of the day, we welcomed two guests who were so inspired by our mission and fellowship that they submitted their applications to join the club!
Later in the week, several of our members joined in supporting The Friends of the Library at their lively Bingo fundraiser on Thursday evening. It was a night full of laughter, camaraderie, and a few lucky Bingo wins!
The week concluded on a high note with a day of family fun at the Big Top Hip Hop Easter Egg Gathering on Saturday, April 12, at Lake Alice Park. The event featured games, sweet treats like cotton candy and popcorn, cupcake walks, colorful Easter eggs, and photo ops with the Easter Bunny himself.
We extend a big thank you to Sheriff Mike Harrison and the Gulf County Sheriff’s Department for their generous donation of Easter baskets, as well as to our incredible community partners: Emerald Coast Hospice, Howard Creek Country Mart, Waves and Woods Realty, Duren’s Piggly Wiggly, M2P Rentals/Peaks Ink, North Florida Medical Center, Fisher’s Building Supply, North Florida Child Development, EMS, and our amazing volunteers. Your contributions helped make this family-friendly event a huge success, and one we hope to make an annual tradition.
The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club is proud to be part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international organization committed to improving communities through volunteer service.
