School district celebrates the careers of eight 2022 retirees
As the fiscal year for Florida’s school districts comes to a close, several of Gulf District Schools’ most loyal employees will be celebrating the end of their decades-long careers.
At their June 7 meeting, the Gulf District Schools School board took time to honor these retirees and wish them well going forward.
“I would like to recognize our retirees,” said School Board member Cindy Belin. “Each year, we send out a letter to each of them, and then they each receive a lifetime pass to all of the Gulf District sporting events.”
This year’s retirees spent a combined total of 262 years working for GDS.
Sissy Worley, the director of finance, celebrated 42 years at GDS. Brenda Jordan, a guidance secretary at Wewahitchka High School, celebrated 32 years. Anita Askew, a teacher at Wewahitchka Elementary School, celebrated 20 years. Dorris Jean Whitten, an MTSS teacher at Wewahitchka Elementary School, celebrated 40 years. Janice Adkison, a curriculum specialist at Port St. Joe Elementary School, celebrated 18 years. Katrina Glass, a teacher at Port St. Joe Elementary School, celebrated 37 years. Duane McFarland, the director of the Gulf County Adult School, celebrated 38 years. And Mary Holley, an assistant director of finance, celebrated 35 years.
“It’s time to look back with pride on achievements made and to remember with appreciation all you have done for Gulf District Schools, Belin said, reading from the letter each retiree received.
“As you look to the future and move on to new experiences, we are wishing you the best of everything as you retire… Congratulations on your retirement.”
