Lady Tiger Sharks run record to 5-2

The Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Sharks have won two of their last three, to run their season record to 5-2.

After swamping Vernon 15-0 in four innings at home Feb. 28 for their third straight win, Coach Derek Garland’s squad fell 6-1 at Franklin County, despite 10 strikeouts and three walks by junior pitcher Brooklyn Bishop.

The team bounced back Mark 6 at Cottondale, as they defeated the Lady Hornets 11-6.



Sophomore Aubrey Armstead drove in four runs, as junior Christina Clayton, senior Addy Silcox and Bishop each had two hits and one RBI.

Bishop and Clayton combined for nine strikeouts and gave up seven hits in the win.

The following night, the team shelled the Abbeville (Alabama) Christian Academy Lady Generals 16-1 in a Panama City tournament.

Junior Elli Newman and Silcox each banged out three hits and Bishop had a homer as she struck out eight and gave up one earned run for the four-inning win.

In the nightcap against the Jay Lady Royals, St. Joe fell 11-3, despite home runs by Bishop and Silcox.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
