Sitar performance on Tuesday at library

Musical artist Adam Thompson, better known as Adam the Sitar Player, will showcase the sounds of India at the next Tuesdays at Two on Jan. 14 at the Corinne Costin Gibson Memorial Public Library in Port St. Joe.

The sitar, a plucked stringed instrument from India, features extensive improvisation, elaborate melodies, and complex rhythmic patterns. The sitar is one of the most frequently performed solo instruments in northern Indian classical and Hindustani music. Thompson is a frequent performer in the region, often at local Indian restaurants, offers a captivating performance on the soul-stirring sounds of the sitar. This past fall, he released his first album, Meditations, now available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music or on his website. 

The lecture, free and open to the public, is at 2 p.m. ET at the library at 100 Library Drive. It is made possible with support from the Friends of the Gulf County Public Libraries. Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
