Bring Me A Book has holiday success

Over the holidays, Bring Me A Book Forgotten Coast gave out 1,186 books to the children of Franklin and Gulf counties.

Events included Apalachicola’s arrival of Santa on a shrimp boat, Port St. Joe Small Business Saturday, the St. George Island Lighting of the Palms, plus Eastpoint and Carrabelle celebrations.

Bring Me A Book partnered with Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Port St. Joe during their Pizza and Cookies with the Grinch event and H’COLA’s Santa on the Hill festivities.

“The books help build home libraries and ignite the passion to read in children from birth through high school,” said Karen Kessel, program coordinator for Bring Me A Book Forgotten Coast. ”Yes, we even gave books to kiddos in high school!  That is a testament to how we have made an impact since 2009.  The older kids ask for books!”

Please save the date for the Love of Literacy Winter Benefit on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Fort Coombs Armory in Apalachicola, the only fundraiser of the year.  Information and tickets may be found at www.bringmeabookforgottencoast.org. Last year’s sold out so get your tickets soon!
