Fisher sworn in to seventh term

Wewahitchka city commissioner Ralph Fisher has once again taken the oath of office, as he embarked Nov, 12 on his seventh consecutive term.

Mayor Phillip Gaskin administered the oath to both Fisher as well as commissioner Brian Cox, who was also elected without opposition, to another four-year term.

Fisher’s beginning of his new term opens another chapter in his participation in municipal leadership and governance, which began with his election to his first term in 2000.

In June 2022, both he and Gaskin received the prestigious John Land Years of Service Award from the Florida League of Cities. Named after one of Florida’s longest-serving mayors, this award honors elected municipal officials who have reached a milestone number of years of service to their city council or commission.

Ralph Fisher and his wife, Patty, have called Wewahitchka home for the past 44 years, raising their family and becoming deeply embedded in the community. They are proud parents of Jason, who lives in Jacksonville with his wife, Ryanne, and their son, Jack.

The Fishers have been prominent figures in the local business community for decades. Together, they own and operate several businesses including the first business he built from the ground up 35 years ago, Fisher’s Building Supply, opened in 1989.
