Gainer elected to Gulf County school board
In the non-partisan race for the Gulf District Schools District 4 school board seat, there will be no runoff between the top two finishers in the August primary.
Heather Thompson Jones, one of the top finishers, spoke with opponent Equillar “Gal” Gainer following the death of her son, Chance Gainer on the football field.
Jones decided to withdraw from the election, and as a result, that race will not be on the District 4 ballot.
“Heather believed that Gal could use this circumstance to help be the voice of the community and help our students in Chance’s memory,” wrote a Gainer supporter on Facebook. “Heather decided to support Gal for school board by withdrawing from the election. Thank you Heather for running and caring for our community and students!”

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
