Wewa loses home opener to Lighthouse Academy

The Wewahitchka Gators football team lost a tough home opener Friday night, as they fell 20-14 in a match-up against the Lighthouse Private Christian Academy Stingrays out of Pensacola.
With quarterback Cole Williams teaming up with Bailey Cox for the passing game, the Gators trailed Lighthouse 12-6 at the half.
With 11 minutes left in the third quarter, #12 Tyran Williams scored a 45-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at 12-all. The Gators nailed the two-point conversion to go up 14-12.
But the Stingrays would later score a touchdown and two-point conversion for the six-point win
With the win, Lighthouse advanced its record to 2-0 on the season, and the Gators fell to 0-1.
Wewa will host Branford for a non-league bout on Friday, August 30. The Buccaneers are coming off a 28-20 non-league loss to Gainesville Oak Hall.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
