Tiger Sharks fall 2-1 in regional semis

In a dramatic extra inning contest Saturday night in Panama City, the Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks did all they could to stymie state top-ranked Bozeman Bucks in the Class 1A regional semis.

But in the end, it was a walk-off 2-1 win for the Bucks who scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Port St. Joe finished their season at 20-7, with Bozeman set to face Trenton on Wednesday morning, May. 15.

Ashley Summerlin’s Tiger Sharks drew first blood with a run in the top of the second, when senior Hunter Hicks’s single enabled sophomore Eli Godwin to score. But the Bucks came back to tie it with one in the bottom of the third.

Four straight scoreless innings then preceded the eight-winning conclusion.

Seniors C.J. Conway, Owen Grantland and Fisher Vandertulip also all had singles. Vandertulip and Hicks each stole a base.

Senior Jentzen Odom went six-and-two-thirds innings on the mound, striking out one, walking three and giving up one earned run on five hits.

Vandertulip pitched an inning of relief, striking out one, walking two and giving up one earned run and one hit.
