Auburn University spring breakers always welcome

They have come and gone. Did you notice? Many in the community did notice because they were helped.

Each year the First Baptist Church of Opelika brings a group of Auburn University students to Cape San Blas for the week of spring break. This year there were more than 300 participants. They spent the first three days in the communities of Port St. Joe and Wewa working on service projects such as painting, pressure washing, and house repairs for the residents. They coordinate with the WindMark Beach Church of Port St. Joe who helps direct them to needed projects. The remainder of the week was spent enjoying the beach.

Let me tell you, this was not Spring Break in Miami or Panama City. I never saw the presence of law enforcement, nor was there any need. Interaction with some of the participants while walking my dog (adopted from the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society – thank you) was enjoyable. The student presence will be welcomed again next year.
