Don’t miss ‘Rivers Edge’ this weekend
The Panhandle Players’ production of “River’s Edge,” written by St. George Island resident Rob Pierce and directed by Nick Avossa, is at the Chapman Theatre in Apalachicola this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 to 30, with Sunday, Oct. 1 sold out. Purchase tickets online at PanhandlePlayers.org or at the door. Showtimes at 7:30 p.m. with box office opening one hour prior to curtain.
Photography exhibit
The Joe Center for the Arts’ newest exhibit celebrates the talents of local professional and amateur photographers.
This juried photography exhibition runs through Oct. 20 and presents amazing images of human interest, landscapes, seascapes, sunsets and the natural world. All pieces will be available for purchase.
Crooked River hosts drum ceremony Friday
The Crooked River Lighthouse will host a Full Moon Event and Sacred Drum Ceremony Friday, Sept. 29, from 8 to 10 p.m. Paul Eagleheart McGee from the Lipan Apache Tribe will conduct a Native American drum ceremony. In honor of the Harvest Moon, the lighthouse will host an informal drumming circle; anyone with a drum is welcome to bring it and join in. Recommended donation is $5 to support the lighthouse. Woman’s Club fish fry
On Sept. 30, GFWC and its affiliated clubs across the globe will once again stand united in their mission to alleviate food insecurity in their communities.
One such example is the GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club, which is collaborating with the Wewahitchka Ministerial Association for a unique and impactful event: a Fish Fry at Lake Alice Park. Instead of monetary payment, the event operates on a donation-based system: guests are encouraged to bring cans of food or non-perishable items as their “ticket” to the feast. This event encapsulates the spirit of giving, community and compassion that the GFWC National Day of Service embodies.
Sunset moon climb on island Friday
The September Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be Friday, Sept. 29, from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per climber for the general public and $7 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Carrabelle’s Country Market Saturday
The Crooked River Lighthouse continues its Country Farmer’s Market this Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Park, 1975 Hwy 98 West, Carrabelle. David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
