Forgotten Coast Fishing Report

Anglers had quite a few days to get out there this last week and there was a lot going on! Quite a few people came in with large hauls of dolphin. There weren’t any big boys but what was lacking in size was made up in quantity with some folks getting right at their vessel limit. Speaking of big hauls, there were some great catches of beeliners as well.

Bluewater’s Jake Harpe and Doug LeConte along with “Uncle” David Payne headed out a long way and got bowed up on some massive gags (successfully released) along with scamp, triggerfish and giant vermillion. Jake and David’s monster gags can be seen in the photo. (You’ll get ‘em next time Doug). I’m still waiting to hear of some big kings being caught; I haven’t heard much about them yet. If you get into them let us know!

Fishing in the bay is still hot. I had a chance last week to take a kayak out for a couple of hours. Within those two hours I caught trout, redfish, flounder, stingray, and a skipjack. Actually, it was more like I caught all those fish in about 20 minutes of actual fishing while I spent the other one hour and 40 minutes paddling and cussing the wind that relentlessly blew me into the reeds and cussing myself for only bringing quarter-ounce jig heads that were just sinking too fast and raking up gobs of seaweed onto my soft plastic. The point of the story is that there is a lot going on out there and the bite is good.

Freshwater people are hauling in bass, panfish and catfish. Worms are flying off the shelf here at Bluewater, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

That’s all for this week; I look forward to seeing you out there.
