Tiger Sharks down Franklin County 6-2

Before an enthusiastic crowd Friday night in Eastpoint, the Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks varsity baseball team opened with three runs in the top of the first inning, and that was all they needed to down Franklin County 6-2 and run their record to 10-9.

Five innings by starter junior Jacob Hensley limited the Seahawks to two earned runs on five hits, as he struck out five and walked two. Junior Tucker Ashcraft did two innings of relief, striking out three and giving up just one hit.

The Seahawks got their two runs in the bottom of the first, driven in by senior Preston Klaus and freshman Kayden Drake, but that was all for the rest of the game.

Hensley’s double drove in a pair of runs for the Tiger Sharks, with senior Cole Williams, junior Corban Butts and sophomore Jayden Reese each batting in a run. Junior Baylor Partie smacked a double, as the Tiger Sharks had nine hits.

Drake and Klaus each had two of the Seahawks’ six hits with freshman Karcen Poloronis’ double and sophomore Sadiq Jones’ single accounting for the other two.

Klaus struck out five as he gave up two earned runs on eight hits. Freshman Gabe Kelly in two innings of relief struck out three and gave up no hits.

On March 25 at Blountstown, the Tiger Sharks lost 13-12 to the Tigers, who scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the win.

Reese, Partie and Hensley led the team with two hits each, with Butts, senior Peyton Knox and senior Eli Harris each getting hits.

The Seahawks now stand at 12-6, and the Tiger Sharks at 10-9.
