Red tide detected off Gulf County
Over the past week, the red tide organism Karenia brevis was observed at background concentrations in one sample collected from Gulf County.
In Southwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was observed at background concentrations in another sample collected from Pinellas County.
Chlorophyll satellite imagery (USF, NOAA NCCOS) is used to help track nearshore and offshore conditions, and the patches of elevated surface chlorophyll in Southwest Florida that have been followed over the past few months appear to have dissipated.
