Choral society to present children’s concert
The Bay Area Choral Society will present a children’s concert for over 200 third graders from Gulf and Franklin County schools on Friday, March 28, at 9:30 a.m. ET at First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe.
Dana Langford, the choral society’s director, students will learn concert etiquette such as how to enter a concert, talking, watching the conductor’s arms, and when to applaud at the bow. She said she will talk about the conductor’s “Magic Box” and “Superpowers.” Students will also learn about different dynamics in music and how to keep a beat.
Choir members will demonstrate what the different vocal parts – soprano, alto, tenor and bass – sound like. Langford said students will also “experience layering of parts to make a bigger sound.” She said children will start singing the song “God Bless America” with the choir joining in harmony, and then instrumentalists added to exhibit how all these parts join to create a richer sound.
The public can enjoy the exuberant sound of the choral society choir at their Spring concert, “Sing Joy,” that will feature several solos and ensembles of popular sing-along songs including a “Tribute to the Everly Brothers” and the “Best of the Beach Boys.”
The concert at First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe will be Friday, March 28, at 6 p.m.and the Trinity Episcopal Church concert will be Saturday, March 29, at 6 p.m. in Apalachicola. Dr. Ian Henning and symphonic instrumentalists from the Florida State University doctoral program will participate in these concerts.
Tickets are $20 and available for purchase online through Eventbrite.com for each of the concerts. Tickets can also be purchased from any choir member, at No Name Books & Gifts for the Port St. Joe concert, and at the Trinity office at 75 6th St. weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon, for the Trinity concert.
