Tiger Sharks even record at 5-5

A six-inning 11-1 rout of Blountstown Thursday night in Port St. Joe evened the Tiger Sharks varsity baseball team’s record at 5-5.
Junior hurler Jacob Hensley went the distance, striking out five, walking six and giving up just one earned run on three hits.
Junior Eli Harris’ solo home run over the left-field fence in the last inning was the highlight as he banged out two hits and drove in two runs. Sophomore Jayden Reese had three hits and one RBI, while junior Corban Butts and Eli Godwin and senior Cole Williams also each had two hits. Senior Peyton Knox and sophomore Jaxson Odom each had base hits, and junior Tucker Ashcraft stroked a triple.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for coach Ashley Summerlin’s squad, as the Tiger Sharks fell 5-0 at Taylor County Feb. 24 and 12-1 at home against Aucilla Christian Feb. 22.
Only Harris and Williams managed hits against Taylor County. Hensley and Ashcraft gave up no earned runs, while Hensley struck out six and Ashcraft one in the loss.
Against Aucilla, only Hensley, Harris and Knox were able to get hits, Harris’ a double.
On Feb. 21, the Tiger Sharks shut out Munroe 10-0 in five innings at home. Hensley got two hits, one a double, while junior Brayden Dailey smacked a double, as Reese, Butts, Williams, Godwin and junior Brody Mock each singled.
Reese and Dailey each struck out four as they split chores on the mound.
Against Sneads at home Feb. 18, Port St. Joe lost 7-4 for its third straight loss after opening with back-to-back wins against Wewahitchka and Rutherford.
Hensley struck out three and gave up two earned runs on two hits, while Dailey gave up three earned runs on two hits. Harris struck out five and gave up one hit.
Reese had two hits and two RBI, while Knox, Odom and Godwin each had hits.
On Feb. 14, the Tiger Sharks fell at home 6-2 to the Pelham (Georgia) Pirates.
Knox had two hits, including a triple, while Ashcraft and Harris each had base bits.
On Feb. 13 at home, the team lost 9-1 to Marianna, as Godwin had two hits, Butts a double and Harris a single.
On Feb. 11 at Rutherford, the Tiger Sharks edged the Rams 6-5.
Junior Baylor Partie and Williams each had two hits, including a double, while Hensley had a pair of singles. Knox, Odom, Ashcraft and Butts each had one hit and one run batted in.
In the opener at home Feb. 10 against Wewa, Partie, Dailey and Ashcraft combined to hurl a no-hitter, with Partie striking out seven.
Butts smacked a home, and had two hits and two runs batted in, as he led the team.

Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
