Crowds show out in Mexico Beach for silver anniversary cook-off

What started as a chilly, overcast day, cleared just in time for the 25th annual Mexico Beach Gumbo Cook-Off Saturday.

Large crowds piled in for the event, hosted at Boat Ramp Park in Mexico Beach and for just $1, patrons got to enjoy a large variety of gumbos and Brunswick stews.

This year’s competition was divided into two categories, one for gumbo and the other for Brunswick stew. Many teams traveled from near and far to compete. BBQ Monsters, which won first place in the gumbo division and second for Brunswick stew, traveled down from Perry, Georgia to take part in the festivities.
