Awards in store for volunteerism, leadership

The Wewahitchka Woman’s Club is bustling with activity as they honor the hard work and dedication of their members and continue their efforts to support the community. Two extraordinary members are being nominated for prestigious awards that recognize their contributions to volunteerism and leadership development.

The Volunteer of the Year Award highlights a club member who exemplifies outstanding service through volunteerism. This nominee’s dedication and impact will compete for District 2 Volunteer of the Year, and if selected, will represent the district at the GFWC Florida annual convention in April. There, she will join winners from Florida’s other 13 districts, vying for the title of GFWC Florida Volunteer of the Year. This recognition is a testament to the club’s ongoing commitment to community service and its members’ tireless efforts.

The second award celebrates a competent, knowledgeable, and hardworking volunteer with the potential to take on leadership roles at the club level or beyond. The nominee will attend the GFWC Florida LEADS (Leadership Education and Development Seminar) on March 1 for a day packed with activities designed to build knowledge, confidence, and capability as a leader. All LEADS graduates will gather at the annual convention, where one graduate will be chosen to represent Florida at the GFWC International Conference in Atlanta in June. This program underscores the importance of nurturing future leaders who will carry the club’s mission forward.

Mark your calendars for the club’s exciting Designer Purse Bingo on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Honeyville Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT, and the games start at 6 p.m. Bring a donation of diapers and/or wipes to earn entry into a special bingo game exclusively for donors. The event promises an evening of fun, prizes, and community spirit, all while supporting a great cause. For more information, email gfwcwewawomansclub@gmail.com.

In addition to these awards, the woman’s club is seeking applications for the GFWC Florida $3,000 Scholarship for Women Returning to Work. This scholarship is available to women who need financial assistance to continue their education and achieve self-sufficiency through meaningful employment. It’s an incredible opportunity to empower women to achieve their goals and create brighter futures.

The Wewahitchka Woman’s Club remains a beacon of volunteerism, leadership development, and community support. Whether through recognizing dedicated members, empowering future leaders, providing scholarship opportunities, or hosting fun-filled events, the club continues to make a meaningful impact on the community. Come join the movement and be a part of their mission to create positive change!
