St. Joe honors soccer seniors
At a ceremony Friday Jan. 17, Port St. Joe High School honored eight of its seniors, five girls and three boys, for the completion of their high school soccer careers.

Alejandro “Ollie” Fonseca #6, is the son of Isabel Fonseca and the brother of Luis Fonseca and Arturo Fonseca. He would like to move to Houston, Texas and attend Rice University to pursue a bachelor of science degree in construction management. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Lyriq Larry #6, daughter of LaTonya Bailey and Lance Larry Sr., is a four-year letterman and is currently serving as captain. She plans to attend the University of Tampa, where she’ll pursue a degree in business management. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Grant Bartley #24, son of John and Teri Bartley, is captain of the boys varsity soccer team. He plans to pursue a degree in engineering and has been accepted into Auburn University and Florida State University. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Jessica Dunn #18, daughter of Mike and Melanie Dunn, has been on the Lady Tiger Sharks varsity soccer team for the past five years, and a captain through her sophomore, junior and senior years. She has been part of the Long Avenue Baptist Church mission team to Guatemala, and plans to serve on the team after high school and pursue further mission work. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Eileen Madrid #1 is the daughter of Karen and Carlos Madrid. A certified phlebotomist, she plans to attend a four year university and pursue a degree in nursing. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Charles Gregory Dean II, #26, son of Charles Dean Sr. and Heidi Willis, has been a member of the Navy Jr. ROTC program for four years, where he is now company commanding officer. He plans to attend Jacksonville University on an NJROTC scholarship, majoring in marine science and later commissioning as an officer in the United States Navy. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Jazmyn Pavon, daughter of Dana and Roberto Pavon, has recently joined the Tiger Shark soccer team. She has been accepted into Florida State University and will pursue a degree in nursing. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]

Evie Price #15, daughter of Joey and Amy Price, has been on the team for four years and after graduation, plans to attend a four-year university and major in business management. [ Mary Akin | The Star ]








Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
