Lost dog tale has happy ending

It was three solid days of worry for a Lynn Haven woman visiting family in Port St. Joe, but in the end, a mom and her son saved the day.

Sharon Bailey, sister-in-law of Port St. Joe’s Brenda Miller, was visiting from Bay County with Beau, a medium size tri-color blue heeler.

Beau was fenced in at 510 Seventh Street, the home of Bailey’s mother Bunny Miller, and while they were at church on Sunday, Jan. 12, somehow Beau got loose, perhaps let out or taken from the house, no way to know.

“There were sightings everyday,” said Brenda Miller.

The family had put out posters and enlisted the help of people all over Facebook, everyone from humane society volunteers to the police department, but for two more days, while people had spotted Beau, they hadn’t corralled him.

That is up until Wednesday, when Port St. Joe sixth grade teacher Lindsay Williams, and her 6-year-old son Relic, residents of Bridgeport, were turning off U.S. 98 onto Avenue A when they saw Beau running in the yard of a vacant house.

“Relic saw the red dog collar and knew it was him,” said Brenda Miller.

Posting immediately on Facebook, the Williams waited on site until the owners zoomed over, and Relic would be treated to a cash reward and the satisfaction of having completed the assignment to bring home Beau.

When the Williamses and Bailey and Breanda Miller all pulled up to the house on Avenue A at the same time and Beau came running out, the dog jumped in, whining and crying so happy to see his mama Sharon.

“Beau is like Velcro now with Sharon and won’t leave her side,” said Brenda Miller.
