MLK ‘Walking Together’ parade set for 10 a.m. Monday

Gulf County’s annual commemorative ‘Walking Together” parade, in celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, is set for Monday. Jan. 20 at Port St. Joe City Hall.

Walking under the theme of “40 Years of Legacy: Marching Forward, United in Justice and Peace,” the parade line-up will be at 9 a.m. ET, with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. The walk will make its way down Reid Avenue, make a right on First Street, and go across Dr. David B. Langston Drive, and down Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, and ending at Avenue G. Free shuttle rides are available. 

An organized program will follow at 11 a.m. at the Washington High School gymnasium, 414 Kenny Street, Port St. Joe, with free fun and food.

Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
