Club women showcase talents at Christmas events

The holiday season is bustling with activity, and the GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club is at the heart of the festivities, showcasing its creative talents and community spirit in multiple events that promise to bring joy and meaning to the season.

As part of The Joe Center of the Arts Festival of Trees in Port St. Joe, the club has beautifully decorated a patriotic Christmas tree. This special tree pays tribute to two important local milestones: the upcoming 150th anniversary of the City of Wewahitchka and the 100th anniversary of Gulf County. Dressed in red, white and blue, the tree celebrates community pride and history.

We have participated in the Festival of the Trees for several years, and last year our Christmas Duck tree took home the first-place honor, and we are hoping to do so again this year. If you haven’t been to The Joe to see all the wonderfully decorated Christmas trees, make plans to stop by! Take in the creativity and holiday spirit of the festival, and don’t forget to vote for your favorite tree while you’re there. The Wewahitchka Woman’s Club would love your support!

The club is also hard at work on their Christmas Duck float, which will spread holiday cheer during two local parades – the Port St. Joe Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, and the Wewahitchka Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 21. With its creative design and holiday spirit, the float promises to bring joy to all who see it.

After the Wewahitchka parade the festivities continue at the Christmas Celebration on the lawn of the Gulf County Historic Courthouse. The Woman’s Club will be there selling homemade Christmas cookies. Every bite of these sweet treats will help support a meaningful cause; proceeds will go toward the GFWC Florida President’s Project, which is Flight to Honor, which honors and celebrates our nation’s veterans.

Adding to the holiday spirit, the club will host their annual Online Cake Auction just in time for Christmas! This much-loved fundraiser offers a chance to bid on homemade cakes, perfect for your holiday celebrations or as a sweet gift for loved ones. Be sure to watch for details on how to participate in this fun and flavorful event!

The club also is excited to kick off the Duck Adoption Campaign for their second annual Duck Derby! For a $5 donation, supporters can adopt a duck and join in the fun, as each duck will race to the finish line on March 8, competing for fabulous prizes. This community-favorite event not only raises funds for the club’s many service projects but brings people together for a day of excitement and friendly competition.

The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club invites everyone to come out and join the holiday festivities, support their charitable efforts, and adopt a duck! Together, we can make the season brighter and continue to enhance our community through the spirit of giving and service.
