Tiger Sharks fall 21-14 to Wildwood

The Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks finished up the 2024 season, with a 21-14 loss to the Wildwood Wildcats on Friday night.

Wildwood scored a touchdown in each of the last three quarters, and while the Tiger Sharks were able to score a pair in the final stanza, it would still leave them one score short.

The win left Port St. Joe with a 5-6 record, its first losing season since the 2019 campaign.

But no doubt the deepest loss of this season was the sudden death of team leader Chance Gainer, who passed away on the football field against Liberty County midway through the season.

The Wildcat victory was somewhat of an avenging by Wildwood Coach Lorenzo Field, who 40 years earlier, as Wildwood’s quarterback, had sustained a loss in the state championship game against Port St. Joe.
