Festival of Trees opens with song and sparkle
The sixth annual Forgotten Coast Festival of Trees got off to a glittering start Friday.
With 28 decorated Christmas trees and displays lining the The Joe Center for the Arts, a reception opened the holiday affair, which runs through Dec. 14.
There were plenty of goodies to enjoy, and song and story filled the air, as members of Bay Area Choral Society sang Christmas carols, and playwright Jerry Hurley, from the Panhandle Players, shared a reading of “The Night Before Christmas.”
Visitors could vote for their favorite tree and kids could go on a scavenger hunt to find objects hiding in different displays.
This Saturday, Nov. 30, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, will be a free snowball fight for kids and from 2 to 4 p.m. a chance to visit and take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Santa will be on hand from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. a program on Alcohol Ink Ornaments (Register at www.thejoecenter.org. On Thursday, Dec. 5, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. will be a program “Florida Snowmen and Snow-Bunnies” ornaments with Jenny Tompkins. $5 fee.
Hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays noon to 4 p.m. Closed Nov. 28-29.
Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
