Wewa hosts District 2 annual meeting

The GFWC District 2 annual district meeting, hosted this year by the Wewahitchka Woman’s Club, was a successful and inspiring event that brought together clubwomen from across the Florida Panhandle.

District 2 Director Stephanie Cantrell presided over the gathering, welcoming to District 2 esteemed guests GFWC Florida President Sara Dessureau and GFWC Florida Junior Director Racquel Sturgis.

With 48 members in attendance, the meeting underscored the dedication and spirit of service that define the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of the coveted Red Apple Award, recognizing the club that contributed the largest donation of nonperishable food items. The GFWC Marianna Woman’s Club won the honor and took home the award until the next district meeting. Thanks to the generosity of the attendees, over 849 pounds of food, along with a $110 check donation, were delivered to the Wewahitchka Ministerial Association’s Food Pantry, supporting local families in need.

The event also served as a platform for advancing the GFWC Florida President’s Project, Flight to Honor, which will fund a special trip to Washington, D.C., for female veterans to visit historic memorials including the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Vietnam Wall. This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes a stop at Arlington National Cemetery to witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The GFWC Florida District 2 President’s Project Chairman, Janet Pattison, of the Gulf Coast Woman’s Club in Panama City, organized a raffle for a patriotic “Flight to Honor” tote bag filled with goodies. The raffle raised $305 to support the President’s Project, helping honor the service and sacrifices of women veterans. Juliet Sauls from the Woman’s Club of Chipley was the lucky winner of the tote.

The day was filled with updates, camaraderie, and reflections on the impact these clubwomen are making in their communities. As always, the GFWC District 2 annual meeting provided an invaluable opportunity to reconnect, share ideas, and strengthen the bond of volunteerism that is the heart of GFWC. The women departed inspired and ready to continue their commitment to community service and advocacy.
