Lady Tiger Sharks split last six matches
After winning three straight, and then losing three in a row, the Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Shark varsity volleyball team has split its last six matches, and is now 6-7.
Under the coaching of Derek Garland, the team defeated Florida A & M University Developmental Research School 3-1 at home Sept. 12, and then at Gadsden County Sept. 16, downed the Lady Jaguars in three straight, 25-13, 25-18 and 25-14 for their second straight win.
At Vernon Sept. 17, the Lady Tiger Sharks had a tougher fight on their hands against the Lady Yellowjackets. Port St. Joe won the first two, 25-21 and 25-14, but then lost the next two games, 25-23 and 25-19. The Sharks settled the affair in the fifth and final game, with a 16-14 win, and their third consecutive win.
In a district match-up at home Sept. 19, the Lady Tigers suffered a district loss to the Wewahitchka Lady Gators. Wewa opened with a 25-16 win, and then St. Joe evened the score with a 25-18 victory. The Lady Gators then took the next two games, both by a 25-22 score, for the win.
At home against Altha Sept. 23, the Lady Tiger Sharks again fell 3-1, losing the first two 25-23 and 25-20, before taking the third, 25-18. The fourth game eluded them, though, as Altha won 25-17.
On Sept. 24 at home, in a district contest against Bozeman, Port St. Joe fell in three straight to the Lady Bucks, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-11.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
